Basingstoke in North East Hampshire was an old market town until the 1960's, when it expanded to encompass the London over-spill. It is now an important economic centre for the United Kingdom, and houses the UK headquarters of a number of large companies including De La Rue, Sun Life Financial, The Automobile Association and Eli Lilly. The town boasts a large shopping centre called Festival Place, which houses a cinema complex, and many restaurants and bars. Basingstoke is just 40 minutes from London on the South West Trains line to Waterloo and the South and off the M3 at Junction 6 or 7.
